It’s easily this year’s best MMA card so far on Saturday night by Las Vegas as a heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and contender Anthony Smith highlights UFC 235.
The five-fight main card is expected to begin at 10 p.m. ET on pay-per-view. Following is a peek at those spells — and the last prelim — and their Sports Interaction UFC chances.
Jon Jones vs. Anthony Smith
Records: Jones (23-1), Smith (31-13)
Division: Light heavyweight
UFC Odds: Jones -850, Smith +500 Prediction: Jones by choice Martial arts dropped one of its greats to retirement in Georges St-Pierre the best MMA fighter . GSP is among the short list of the best of all time regardless of division. The best? One could make an argument for your own 31-year-old Jones. From the Octagon, he has no peer. He simply appears to derail his career whether because of drug tests that are failing or legal problems. Jones became the youngest winner in UFC history, and he never dropped it at the Octagon. However, a failed drug test could come out following Jones beat on Daniel Cormier in UFC 214 and Jones was suspended and stripped of this heavyweight belt.
Jones made it back with a knockout of Alexander Gustafsson, but that came with an asterisk. Jones tested positive and also the state of Nevada would not give a permit to him. So the card, in a really unprecedented movement, was altered to Los Angeles. The 30-year-old Smith is a former pupil who has fought pounds for less than a year. He is on an impressive series over Rashad Evans, Mauricio Rua and Volkan Oezdemir. There’s some discussion Jones may face Cormier, the heavyweight champ, with a win although Jones (unofficially) has beaten him twice .
